What is the point of baby announcements???

July 7, 2011

My wife wants to send out baby announcements. Our baby has been alive for over a week. I was hoping she had forgotten about this idea. Nope, she brought up the fact that we still have to do this. I could not disagree more. It is likely that everyone we would send the announcement to would already know that our baby has been  born and would likely have already seen our baby in person or have seen a picture of him from an e-mail, facebook or from this website.  Thanks to facebook people we have not seen in ten plus years and will likely never see again in our lives have seen pictures of our baby. It really should not be called a baby announcement. It should be called “You already know we had a baby but we are sending you a picture anyhow that you will be forced to put on your refrigerator for a few months before you get up the nerve to throw it away.”

I’m with Liz. If nothing else, it’s a nice keepsake to have in the baby book (which I assume Liz is putting together as well !?) or memory box or whatever you’re going to do. There’s actually a section for it in our book .. you don’t want to leave it blank and have Zachary think you did a half-ass’d job do you?
And if it makes you feel better, I will put it on our fridge proudly and happily and will not feel “forced” to do so in any way !
