My Boy will NOT wear a helmet!!!

November 21, 2011

Thankfully, Baby Zachary will not fit in with this crew

This is one of the happier days of my life. We went to the pediatrician this morning and found out that our boy will not be wearing a helmet. Last time we went to the pediatrician she told us that the back of our boy’s head had become somewhat flat (common in babies from sleeping on their backs). There was a chance if it got worse or showed no improvement that he would be fitted with a helmet that he would have had to wear 23 of every 24 hours for two to six months (how do you even choose the one hour of helmet-less freedom?). I think this would have resulted in me crying for 23 of every 24 hours for two to six months.  Thankfully this morning our pediatrician said that Baby Zachary has showed some improvement and will not need a helmet (our successful strategy for rounding out Baby Zachary’s head involved a whole lot of tummy time and keeping him off the back of his head as much as possible when he was awake).  I can’t imagine how awful it would have been to see my boy in a helmet. I think we would have had to hide all pictures and evidence of the helmet from my boy when he was older as if it were some deep dark family secret.
