Is your baby sitting up yet?

December 23, 2011

I don’t know why people feel the need to make us constantly question our child’s development. Every time someone asks how old our baby is they immediately follow it up with a question about what he is doing at this stage. We get questions like, “Is he sitting up yet,”…”Is he crawling,”…”Is he walking yet,”…”Is he filing his own taxes yet.” The best part is when we get questions that are completely developmentally inappropriate and people respond, “oh yeah, I forgot that kids can’t hold a conversation at 5 months old.” The worst part is when we get questions that are developmentally appropriate that make us feel like our boy is falling behind. Some babies at six months can sit up, Zachary is getting there so leave us alone. Please don’t make us feel bad about our baby’s development. I don’t go around asking you about your development…”hey, aren’t you supposed to have a career by now,”…”aren’t you supposed to not need money from your parents anymore,”…”aren’t you supposed to be able to put together an outfit that matches by this point in your adult life.”
