How’s My Eating? Call 1-800-EAT-MUSH
Why can’t Baby Zachary chew? What is driving us crazy lately is that we have realized Zachary refuses to move beyond baby mush because he does not understand the concept of chewing. Most babies chew by instinct but Zachary prefers to mush things with his tongue. I have made the argument to Wifey that he doesn’t chew because he barely has teeth as he only has two that are partly in. His cousin barely has two teeth and she chews spare ribs with her gums. So, we are starting to get worried. I have read nightmare stories online about three year-olds who still do not chew and have not moved past baby mush. Please Zachary, learn to chew soon so we don’t have to post our horror story someday about having a college bound senior who still can’t chew. Despite our worries, Zachary has made some food advances. Most notably he now eats a lot of mac & cheese. We serve him mac & cheese every day as there is not much he will eat that is not baby mush. He eats mac & cheese so we go with it. He can also down some potato bread and bits of chicken though the bits of chicken can make him gag. He mushes everything with his tongue. I hope he will soon figure out the chewing thing. I now mimic the chewing motion when he eats in hopes he will catch on. Meal time has not been fun time lately.
